2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback

Mitsubishi has just pulled back the curtain on one of its most exciting reveals in years. The 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback has been officially unveiled, and it marks a major milestone for the brand: a fully electric, sporty subcompact SUV that carries one of Mitsubishi’s most iconic nameplates into a bold new era.

The Eclipse Sportback EV is being developed in collaboration with Alliance partner Nissan Motor Co., building on the foundation of the next-generation Nissan LEAF while introducing unique Mitsubishi styling that sets it apart as its own vehicle entirely. Distinct front and rear fascias that echo the rest of Mitsubishi’s global lineup, unique lighting signatures, striking alloy wheels, and the brand’s iconic Triple Diamond badging all combine to give the Eclipse Sportback a look that is unmistakably Mitsubishi.

While the Eclipse Sportback EV may feel like a new chapter, Mitsubishi’s commitment to electric vehicles actually stretches back decades. The brand first began developing fully electric vehicles in Japan in the 1970s, and went on to produce the world’s first mass-produced EV with the i-MiEV, which arrived in the U.S. in 2011. A year later, Mitsubishi introduced the Outlander PHEV, the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, which came to North America in 2018. The Eclipse Sportback EV is the natural next step in that long and proud electrification journey.

The Eclipse Sportback EV is also a key piece of Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 business plan, which charts a course toward a fully electrified, modernized lineup through the end of the decade. The plan includes at least one new or significantly updated vehicle every year through fiscal-year 2030. Adding to the excitement, an all-new rugged off-road derivative of the Outlander SUV is expected to arrive in early 2027 as well, giving Mitsubishi fans even more to look forward to in the months ahead.

The 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV is expected to reach North American dealerships in the second half of this year. Full technical details, pricing, and availability will be announced in the near future, and we will keep you updated every step of the way.
