The world’s best-selling all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid SUV, the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, builds on the success of its gasoline-powered counterpart with bold styling, advanced architecture, and luxurious features. But what sets it apart is Mitsubishi’s innovative plug-in hybrid drivetrain, delivering robust performance, impressive all-electric range, and the latest version of the rally-proven Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

Refined Updates for 2025

For the new model year, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid enhances its premium experience:

  • Heated front seats are now standard on all trims.
  • Panoramic sunroof and heated steering wheel are included with SEL trims.
  • Available in three trims—ES, SE, and SEL—with additional packages for further customization.
  • Drivers can enjoy up to 38 miles of all-electric range, an overall range of 420 miles, and fast charging capabilities on SEL and above trims. Using the CHAdeMO system, the battery charges to 80% in just 38 minutes.

The 2025 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is an ideal transition for those moving from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles. It offers the range and refueling convenience of a traditional gasoline vehicle, paired with the quiet, clean driving experience of an EV.

Adding to this is Mitsubishi’s Innovative Pedal technology, which provides near one-pedal operation for seamless acceleration and deceleration. Unlike other systems, it maintains the intuitive low-speed “creep” familiar to automatic transmission vehicles, making parking and maneuvering easier.

Inside, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid delivers comfort and versatility:

  • Seven-passenger seating, a rarity among plug-in hybrid SUVs.
  • Enhanced cargo space, with up to 30.8 cubic feet when the third-row seat is folded flat.
  • High-end materials, including diamond-quilted semi-aniline leather on SEL trims.
  • The innovative design of the third-row seat allows for easy folding and stowing, providing flexibility for passengers and cargo alike.

Cutting-Edge Technology

Mitsubishi’s flagship model is the most connected vehicle in the brand’s history. Features include:

  • Standard 12.3-inch digital driver display and Apple CarPlay® (wireless on SE and above) and Android Auto™.
  • Available nine-inch touchscreen with navigation, SiriusXM®, and wireless smartphone charging.

  • Five years of MITSUBISHI CONNECT with Safeguard and Remote Services16 included on select trims.

Built on a robust platform developed with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid offers a solid foundation for confident driving. 248-horsepower, twin-motor system with 332 lb.-ft of torque, and motorsport-derived S-AWC all-wheel drive, designed for optimal traction and control in all conditions. In-car technology plays a pivotal role in new-car purchase decisions, with seamless smartphone integration and intuitive functionality often serving as dealbreakers for buyers. Despite this growing demand, many automotive brands face significant customer dissatisfaction with the usability of their in-car systems. Mitsubishi Motors, however, is changing that narrative with the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander. For the first time, the Outlander has claimed victory in the small/compact segment of the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study, a testament to Mitsubishi’s commitment to delivering an exceptional in-car experience.

Launched as a 2022 model-year vehicle, the Mitsubishi Outlander redefined perceptions of the brand. Its advanced engineering and technology features were designed to attract new customers, many of whom might not have previously considered Mitsubishi. Mark Chaffin, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, shared: “From the day we debuted Outlander on Amazon Live—the first-ever vehicle launched on the platform—our focus on exceeding customer expectations through technology has been key to the vehicle’s success.”

The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander’s multimedia system offers a suite of intuitive features designed for today’s connected lifestyles, including wireless Apple CarPlay® and wired Android Auto™ integration, an available nine-inch multimedia screen as the central hub for connectivity, built-in theater-like sound from an available Bose® sound system, and wireless charging alongside multiple USB options (USB-A and USB-C) to ensure uninterrupted device connectivity. Beyond multimedia, the Outlander offers advanced features such as MI-PILOT Assist™, which includes lane-centering, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam stop-and-go, and highway exiting, as well as My MITSUBISHI CONNECT™, which allows for remote start, cabin pre-conditioning, and safety alerts. The myQ® Connected Garage feature further enhances convenience by letting drivers open and close garage doors remotely.

The Outlander’s technology enhancements are reflected in customer satisfaction and sales figures. Through the third quarter of 2024, Outlander sales rose 5.6% compared to the same period in 2023. While many factors contribute to its growing popularity, there’s no denying that the seamless, user-friendly in-car experience makes a lasting impression during test drives.

The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study analyzed feedback from 99,144 new-vehicle owners surveyed 90 days after purchase, evaluating the quality, design, and features of automotive sound and multimedia systems. Mitsubishi’s engineering excellence shone through, earning the Outlander top honors in its segment.

With its award-winning technology, sophisticated design, and commitment to customer satisfaction, the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander exemplifies how in-car systems can elevate the driving experience. Whether keeping drivers connected on the go or simplifying the commute, Mitsubishi continues to raise the bar for in-car innovation.
